A new report titled “An Overview of Internet Infrastructure and Governance in the Philippines” was recently released. The research was completed by Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) and The Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto.

The report outlines the key actors and laws and regulations governing internet infrastructure in the country, and identifies existing issues and gaps in Philippine internet governance.

Based on the research findings, FMA provided several recommendations on specific key areas that are likely to require particular attention in the field of internet governance in the Philippines, namely:

  1. Mainstreaming a progressive ICT agenda in future elections
  2. Embedding sound internet governance in the new ICT Strategic Plan
  3. Institutional reform and development for sound internet governance
  4. Engaging the post-2015 ASEAN ICT Master Plan
  5. Mainstreaming the PH Declaration on Internet Rights and Principles
