The Safe Cities Metro Manila Programme is part of a global initiative of UN Women, joined by over 24 cities around the world that aim to improve women’s safety as they move about in the highly urbanized cities. Here in the Philippines, Quezon City is the first in the country to prioritize this issue alongside their development agenda through a partnership with UN Women.

On May 14, 2016,  8layer Technologies Inc. and UN Women Safe Cities Manila Programme will convene a “Safe Cities Hackathon” on May 21-22, 2016 at Korea Philippines IT Training Center in Quezon City and Pre-Event Hacakthon on May 14.

Lisa Garcia, the Gender and ICT Program Manager and Acting Executive Director  of the Foundation for Media Alternatives is invited to be a resource speaker at the Pre-Event of Safe Cities Hackathon on May 14, 2016.

Ms. Garcia will talk about women, gender and ICT, and the emergence of ICT comes with the rise of ICT-related violence that stigmatizes and targets women. She will also introduce Aksyon VAW, a mobile application that aims to educate users to know their rights and to keep safe online.

See Safe Cities Hackathon for more details.
