Quezon City, Philippines – Last June 25-26, 2015, FMA conducted its first Connect Your Rights National Training of Trainers (ToT). The 2 day training was held at the Oracle Hoteland Residences. The ToT aims to equip partner organizations with knowledge and capacity to be able to re-echo the CYR training to their constituents. It also hopes to educateadvocatesto be more articulate on the issue of Internet Rights.

This was attended by individuals from different organizations around the country. Most of them were participants of the past Connect Your Rights trainings in Manila, Davao and Cebu. Others came from partner organizations who are also working on the Internet Rights advocacy. Organizations present were: Asian Federation against Involuntary Disappearances, Bohol Northwestern Colleges, Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, Dakila, Diemedia, Fellowship for Organizing Endeavors (FORGE) Inc., Galang Philippines, GANDA Filipinas, Initiatives for International Dialogue, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Marindukanon Studies Center, Mindanao Peacebuilding Institute Foundation, Inc., National Alliance of Youth Leaders, and Startup Davao.

The Trainor’s Training was a combination of discussions, inputs, activities, and process sharing on how to properly and effectively conduct the Connect Your Rights training. Tips on organizing and implementing the training were shared by the FMA team and participants were also encouraged to share their learning from the previous training and other similar activities they have attended.

During the first day of the training, the basics of the Connect Your Rights training were discussed.The draft of the Philippine Declaration on Internet Rights and Principles was also presented. Once completed, this declaration shall be included in the curriculum of the Connect Your Rights training.

On the second day, inputs on the three major programs of FMA – Gender and ICT (technology-based VAW), Internet Freedom and Cybercrime, and Privacy, were discussed. The training was also an avenue for participants to share their plans of re-echoing the said training to their organizations or institutional partners.
